The Bronx, the Bush, and the Bayou

Ongoing, 2026–present

The Bronx, the Bush, and the Bayou is an ongoing body of work tracing the relationships between the Bronx, Jamaica, and New Orleans through migration, material memory, and cultural exchange. Drawing from my experience as a first-generation Jamaican American raised in the Bronx and my ongoing relationship with New Orleans, the work considers how place is carried, transformed, and preserved across geography and generations.

Through sculptural assemblage, installation, sound, and constructed photography, I work with found and collected materials—including architectural iron, shells, bottles, plant matter, domestic objects, and fragments gathered across each location. Objects move between places and are recombined, allowing materials from one landscape to encounter and alter those of another.

The Bronx, the Bush, and the Bayou function as both physical locations and points within a personal cosmology. The works consider the ways ancestral memory, migration, ecology, ritual, and everyday material culture accumulate within objects and landscapes. Rather than attempting to collapse the three places into one, the project attends to what emerges through their contact: new forms, relationships, and ways of remembering.
